This Privacy Policy describes how the Internet Speed app (“we”, “our”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our application available on the Google Play Store. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

1. Information we collect

App‑provided data (local only)

Internet usage data: Real‑time speed and data usage statistics (per day/month) are collected to provide live monitoring and tracking. This data is stored locally on your device and never shared with any third party.
Device state: We access your phone state (via READ_PHONE_STATE) to accurately read mobile data usage and network information.
Network status: We use network state information (via ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) to detect your current connection type (Wi‑Fi or mobile data).
Per‑app data usage: We enumerate installed apps (via QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES) to display each app’s individual network consumption – all processed locally.

Data collected via AdMob (third‑party advertising)

We use Google AdMob to serve ads. AdMob may collect the following information to deliver and personalize advertisements:

IP address – used for geolocation (country/region) and ad targeting.
Android Advertising ID (AAID) – an anonymized identifier for ad personalization and frequency capping.
Device & network data – model, OS version, carrier, language, screen size, and network type.
Ad interaction – impressions, clicks, and engagement metrics for campaign performance.

All AdMob data is handled under Google’s Privacy Policy. We receive only aggregated reports and do not have access to personally identifiable information (PII).

Core functionality: Speed monitoring, data usage tracking, and notification updates – all processed locally.
Per‑App Data Usage Monitor: Enumerates installed apps to query each app’s network usage statistics, showing a breakdown of data consumed per app (WiFi + mobile).
Real‑time Network Speed Monitoring: Uses a foreground service to continuously track live download/upload speeds and accumulate usage totals in the background.
Ad personalization: AdMob uses device data to show relevant ads. You can opt out of interest‑based ads via your device’s Google Ads settings.
No data sharing: We do not sell, trade, or rent any information. Local usage data stays on your device.

3. Permissions explained

Below is a clear breakdown of each permission we request and its purpose:

INTERNET Required to load ads from AdMob and for network connectivity checks.

ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Detects your current network connection (Wi‑Fi or mobile) to adjust monitoring and display.

POST_NOTIFICATIONS Used to show live internet speed and usage in the notification bar (ongoing foreground service).

READ_PHONE_STATE Reads SIM and network info (subscription ID, operator) to accurately track mobile data usage per day/month.

FOREGROUND_SERVICE Enables continuous tracking of your internet speed and usage even when the app is in the background.

QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES Enumerates installed apps to display each app’s individual network data consumption (WiFi + mobile).

FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC Allows the foreground service to continuously poll network stats and sync usage data locally.

All permissions are requested at runtime (Android 6+) and are essential for the app's monitoring features. You may deny permissions, but the core speed test requires network and notification permissions.

4. Key features requiring permissions

The following features rely on the permissions above to deliver their functionality. All data processed by these features remains local to your device.

📱 Per-App Data Usage Monitor

The QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission is required to enumerate all installed applications on the device so the app can query each app's network usage statistics (via NetworkStatsManager.queryDetailsForUid()). This allows users to see a breakdown of data consumed by each installed app (WiFi + mobile), helping them identify which apps use the most data. This is accessed via Settings → Per-App Data Usage in the app.

⚡ Real-time Network Speed & Data Usage Monitoring

The app uses a foreground service (NetworkMonitorService) with FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC to continuously track live internet download/upload speeds and accumulate data usage totals in the background. The service polls TrafficStats every second and saves usage data to the local Room database every 60 seconds for historical tracking. This runs persistently via a foreground notification showing current speed and daily usage, even when the app is minimized. Users start/stop the service from the Monitoring Service section in the app.

5. Third‑party services

We integrate exclusively with Google AdMob for advertising. No other third‑party SDKs (analytics, crash reporting, or tracking) are used. AdMob may collect device information as described above. For more details, please review Google’s privacy policy:

6. Data storage & security

No personal data is stored or transmitted to our servers. All usage statistics, speed history, and data logs are stored locally on your device in internal storage. We take reasonable measures (e.g., data encryption in transit via HTTPS for ad requests) to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; use at your own risk.

You can clear all locally stored data at any time via device settings (Settings → Apps → Internet Speed → Storage → Clear Data) or by uninstalling the app.

7. Your choices & control

Ad personalization opt‑out: On your device, go to Settings → Google → Ads and enable “Opt out of Ads Personalization” or reset your advertising ID.
Permission management: You can revoke any permission (e.g., notifications, phone state, package query) via your device’s app settings. Note that some features may be limited.
Data deletion: Since all data is local, you can delete it by clearing app data or uninstalling the app.

8. Children’s privacy

This app is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete it. AdMob also provides options for age‑restricted ad personalization.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the “Effective Date” at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Significant changes will be communicated via the app or through the Google Play listing.
